On July 2007, Robert Williamson traveled with the youth group he helped lead to The Call in Nashville, Tennessee, held on July 7, 2007 (7/7/07). During a time of prayer and fasting, he experienced something that would stay with him for the rest of his life. He describes it as: The entire story was placed in his heart—complete with its characters, their names, and their journeys.
When he returned home, Robert wrote the story in just 28 hours, working in two-hour sessions. Believing he had written a screenplay, he shared it with people in the film industry, only to discover it was actually structured as a stage play.
For the next nineteen years, the story remained with him. Eventually, he realized it had found its true home—not on a stage or a screen, but in the pages of a novel.
Robert doesn't consider himself a writer as much as a storyteller. Most of his stories grow out of the people and experiences he has encountered throughout life. This one was different. It found him. Rather than using the story to lecture, point fingers, or make political statements, he allows the characters to live, to struggle, and to speak for themselves.
Marah is an emotional journey about love, loss, hope, redemption, and the value of every human life. More than anything, it is a story that invites readers to become immersed in its characters—to laugh with them, cry with them, wrestle with them, and ultimately leave changed by their journey.
